"I’m excited that Simon Brown, a partner behind high-caliber San Francisco chocolatier Topogato, is teaming up with his old pal Erik Tennyson for a one-night-only dessert-bar pop-up called Back to Leavenworth on February 27; the collaboration—born of their time working together at Liholiho Yacht Club—features five chocolate-and-whisky cocktail pairings and custom bon bons alongside Topogato’s standard fare. Perhaps the star is Biff’s Pleasure Palace, a $20 offering pairing an eight-year-old rum-based cocktail with coconut and banana with a rum banana-split mousse laced with a vanilla cream hazelnut sponge; the other $12 pairings include the 1.21 Gigawatts!!! (a cocoa-nib-infused whiskey drink paired with a coffee-cream canale) and the Flux Capacitor (a roasted chestnut cognac cocktail paired with a chestnut cognac s’mores bar infused with speculoos cookie). Brown calls the project “a creative playground for both of us” and framed it as a way to range-find whether a dessert-bar concept like New York’s Butter & Scotch could work in San Francisco." - Paolo Bicchieri
