"A new casual Eastern European restaurant in North Shoal Creek opened at 3301 Steck Avenue on Friday, July 20, taking over the former Marakesh Cafe and Grill space. The regional menu covers Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, and Romanian cuisines, with offerings such as pierogies, herring, borscht, schnitzel, grilled veal tongues, beef stroganoff and mamaliga (a yellow maize flour–based porridge); the beer and wine list emphasizes Eastern European selections. Owners Taras Klitchyk (from Ukraine) and Tatiana Bogdanovych (from Russia) started the spot after noticing growing interest in Slavic foods through their Borderless European Market grocery in North Austin. The restaurant’s name means “gates” in Polish. Current hours are noon–8 p.m. Monday–Thursday and noon–9 p.m. Saturday, with lunch and brunch service planned for the near future." - Nadia Chaudhury
