"Named after the Mexican state of Michoacan, this cash-only City Heights outpost serves tender pork carnitas. Best served as a family-style meal — those include rice, beans, salsa, and tortillas — diners can order a pound or half-pound of the succulent fried pork and dig in with the provided corn tortillas and accompanying toppings such as cilantro, onion, guacamole, and lemon juice. (For added heat, bite into blistered chiles in between tacos.) The crispy chicharrón guarded safely in a glass display also makes for a good side; carne asada, chicken, adobada, and al pastor tacos under $5 are also available. The indoor dining area resembles a cozy cafeteria with about 10 four-tops ideal for smaller parties. A sister location in Chula Vista also offers the crispy carnitas, adobada, chicken, carne asada, and deep-fried potato tacos out of a spot on Third Avenue." - Roxana Becerril
