"An Auburn Hills–based entertainment venue, Hub Stadium was investigated by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for health, safety, and welfare concerns at its axe-throwing lanes after regulators described potentially dangerous activities involving alcohol and sharp objects. I learned the MLCC said it had not been informed that axe-throwing would take place during the venue’s licensing application and opened an investigation in June, finding red flags including alcohol consumption in the throwing areas, patrons wearing inappropriate footwear (open-toed shoes, heels), lax enforcement and monitoring by management, and social-media images and videos showing customers throwing axes at bottles of alcohol, bouncing axes off the floor to hit targets, juggling axes, and other unsafe showing-off. That lax enforcement prompted a hearing on August 30 and led to a brief one-day suspension on September 10 to allow the licensee to make numerous structural and policy changes." - Brenna Houck
