"I found a new cocktail lounge on NE Sandy Boulevard that imagines how Portlanders in the ’50s might picture a 21st-century bar: glowing green lights, mod silver finishes, images of vintage spaceships, and banana daiquiris aplenty. Opened quietly in early November as a project of Casey Maxwell (owner of the late Matador), the multi-chambered, dark space features black leather, low green lights, and upbeat vintage-style art of moons and rockets. It serves a retro-futurist menu of classic cocktails at affordable prices — daiquiris and cognac Old Fashioneds are already pulling in crowds and nothing exceeds $10 — alongside sweet drinks like a grasshopper similar to Pépé le Moko’s with crème de menthe and cacao, plus Fernet Branca and ice cream. A modest but fun food menu focuses on savory pies, including a veggie and a chicken pot pie, as well as fried pies like ham and cheese, with additional bar snacks, soups, and salads. It's located at 5216 NE Sandy Boulevard and is open daily from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m." - Alex Frane
