"A major 42,000-square-foot, two-level waterfront venue on the North Embarcadero finally opened on Tuesday, July 28 after five years of planning. The multi-restaurant project, proposed by local hospitality group The Brigantine, Inc. as part of the Port of San Diego’s “San Diego Wonderfront” redevelopment, was built for about $13 million and modeled after a fishing boat — featuring curved steel and zinc shingles on a barrel-shaped roof and 26-foot and 31-foot glass structures at either end meant to resemble fishing baskets. It houses the full-service Brigantine on the Bay, Miguel’s Cocina, Ketch Grill & Taps and the walk-up Portside Coffee & Gelato, and includes a second-level viewing deck, a perimeter walkway with free public access, four dock-and-dine berths, metered parking along Harbor Drive and valet service. The venue holds about 1,000 seats across eateries and public areas (luckily more than half outdoors across patios and lounges), and city leaders touted the project at the ribbon-cutting for bringing hundreds of jobs and expanded public access to the Embarcadero amid the pandemic." - Candice Woo
