"Signage is up and finishing touches are going in at Walt’s Bar, the new arcade drink spot in Eagle Rock: a former plumbing shop fully converted into a retro place for cold beer and vintage pinball, with opening night slated for Friday. Inside, the long room is filled with a curving wooden bar and diner-style two-top tables near the front windows, and there’s a wraparound patio with a ledge for holding drinks and mid-century restaurant stools to sit on; a light-up sign on one side of the building advertises cold beer — not to be confused with Highland Park’s Coldest Beer in Town sign — while hand-painted lettering at the front offers fine wines and hot dogs. No word yet on regular hours after the Friday opening from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., ownership did share a shot of the pinball machines all lined up and ready for game play, and I reached out for more details but haven’t heard back. Its arrival comes at an interesting time for greater Eagle Rock, as a slew of new restaurant developments on Colorado Boulevard (and projects like the Brooklyn-based Barcade starting construction on York Boulevard in Highland Park) could change the neighborhood’s dining landscape." - Farley Elliott
