"Andrew Musico, the chef behind the pop-up Fattest Cow, made his permanent debut in Sawyer Yards in January with this Filipino tasting menu restaurant. This filling seven-course experience kicks off with snacks, like longanisa sausage topped with atchara pickle and tare, and tortang talong, a bite-sized eggplant omelet made with fermented rice, shrimp, and a kick of Thai chili. Refreshing kinilaw, a Filipino-style ceviche made with roselle vinegar, begins the journey into entrees, followed by sinigang, a comforting rice dish made with tomatillo, trout roe, parmesan, and scallop; and Chicken 4 Ways, which includes a Hainanese poached chicken breast wrapped in cabbage, a warming chicken broth, and a standout garlicky chicken fat rice topped with fried chicken skins. The desserts here also shine, with a delightful Meyer Calamansi tart, and Musico’s take on the street food kamote cue — spheres of sweet potato cheesecake plated with crumbled shortbread and pomegranate for added brightness. Be sure to check the restaurant’s website and Instagram for updates. Though reservations are still limited, Chikahan will soon offer more variety, with karaoke nights on Tuesdays with Filipino tapas and a four-course tasting menu for diners pressed on time." - Brittany Britto Garley
