Sandwich shop · Lower Garden District

"Ray Movahed, who opened Magazine Street Po-Boy and Sandwich Shop in the Garden District in 1988, will serve his final soft shell crab po-boy when he closes the restaurant at the end of this May. At 59, Movahed is retiring. He owns the building and will pass the keys over to another restaurant on June 1, though there are no details on that yet, reports NOLA.COM. For the most part, the corner po-boy shop flew under the radar as nearby Tracy’s, Mahony’s, and Parasol’s attracted most of the attention. Still, both tourists and locals consider it a steadfast place to grab fried okra and pickles, fried seafood po-boys, and muffuletta salads. The menu also includes a wider variety of vegetarian po-boys than most, including po-boys with french fries, eggplant parm, a meatless muffuletta mixture, cheese, or fried pickles." - Stephanie Carter
