"This La Puente (and Covina) destination straddles a happy medium between Texas and California, turning out well-smoked meats and very good sides like bacon-topped macaroni and cheese. The tri-tip leans Santa Maria–style—slightly dried out unless you dip it in the side of jus—but it’s smoky enough; the brisket stays tender, the ribs are a standout, and the extra-long smoked sausage satisfies.
