"Originally opened in 1994 at 580 Geary Street in the ground floor of the Tendernob’s Hotel California, Millennium was long known as San Francisco’s only fine-dining restaurant to serve exclusively plant-based dishes, standing apart from competitors such as Greens (which serves dairy and eggs) and more casual vegan or mock-meat venues. After more than 20 years the owners Larry and Ann Wheat closed Millennium in 2015 when they retired (they later appeared on a health-focused podcast praising veganism), and chefs Eric Tucker and Alison Bagby later relaunched the brand with a new Millennium in Rockridge that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2016." - Eve Batey
