"I spotted a breakfast-and-lunch café called Twisted Waffles opening soon in the Lower Garden District at 1420 Annunciation Street, directly next to post-college apartment destination The Saulet. An occupational business license issued to Jennifer Matthews this month lists it as a “standing coffee/safe shop,” and an alcohol permit filed in February is pending. The shop confidently bills itself on its website as “everyone’s favorite cafe in New Orleans,” putting a “new twist” on breakfast and lunch; the massive menu features brunch-like items such as creole grits and chicken and waffles, customizable “waffle bowls” and “wafflewichs,” six specialty waffles plus a few traditional breakfast options, and lunch offerings that include customizable burgers, a varied list of sandwiches and salads (club, BLT and even a Caprese waffle), or larger plates like crab or salmon cakes.
