"The team behind poppin’ nine-year-old South Williamsburg bar the Woods has opened another indoor-outdoor bar in the area — this time, with way more color and way 'more low-key,' says owner David Rosen. Right under the BQE at 307 Meeker Ave. at Frost Street, the Breakers fills 2,500 square feet with neon signs, saturated colors, and skateboards and surfboards. The style pulls from ’80s surfing and skateboarding looks, with a little dose of disco in the mix, Rosen says. An elaborate mural on the floor, for instance, is inspired by skateboard design. For drinks, the Breakers goes hard on tiki-inspired draft cocktails. The bar stocks 15 of them, including a zombie, rum punch, and ginger mai tai. All cost $10, with the exception of a Sex on the Beach, which will always be $5. Like at the Woods, which has long stocked step-above bar food in the back, food is available here, too. Domingo Vega, who runs the Bear at the Woods, will be at Breakers as well, offering chicken sandwiches, burgers, fries, and tacos. Later on this summer, expect specials like oysters or crawfish boils. Another similarity to the Woods: Dancing is a priority here — though still with that 'more low-key' qualification, Rosen says. A bar splits the equal-sized indoor and outdoor area, in a way that the bartenders have a 360-degree view of the whole space. As such, Rosen says they expect it to be far more relaxed than the Woods, where on the weekends the indoors becomes a big party and the outside acts as a break from the activity. 'We’re going to focus on being more chill [here],' he says. 'It’s much more stylized than the Woods is.' The Breakers is open weekdays from 2 p.m. to 4 a.m. and weekends from noon to 4 a.m." - Serena Dai
