"A neighborhood breakfast-and-lunch favorite known for its signature grilled cheese and tomato soup made with fresh bread from daytime chef José Santos and baker Anna Travis. The café adapted during the pandemic by adding a pickup window and has now expanded into dinner after eight years under owner Will von Hartz. Evening service, led by chef Jazer Syed, replaces QR ordering with table service and delivers composed, ever-changing dishes that draw on local farms and the chef’s Indian, Filipino, and French training — examples include carrots dusted with garam masala and labneh, an adobo pork belly bao, and a lamb kefta kebob served with roti — while a limited selection of sandwiches remains available after 5 p.m. The interior uses mismatched dishes and dried flowers for a quirky, romantic vibe, and an expanded beverage program (beer, wine, cocktails) features inventive drinks that incorporate the café’s house soda syrups and even boozy root beer floats." - Ashok Selvam
