"I've known this venerable Corktown bar, restaurant, and music venue as a longtime destination for indie bands, beers, and a vegetarian- and vegan-friendly brunch that was historically rare in the city. Owner Paul “PJ” Ryder put the place on the market in 2019 for $2.2 million and after more than three years on the market has finally found a buyer — Alex Riley, who also owns the property next door — in a deal Ryder says was “an offer I couldn’t refuse” and expects to close in September. The spot struggled during the pandemic, temporarily shuttering in 2020 after several employees contracted COVID-19 and prompting a GoFundMe to support those workers, but Ryder says there are currently no plans to change the space and that it will remain a music-and-food destination. When Ryder purchased the building in 2007, Corktown was still considered seedy, and PJ’s has since made a name for itself beyond that reputation." - Serena Maria Daniels
