"I've known Pacific Market on Broadway for decades; it's a longtime spot for produce like breadfruit and durian as well as Vietnamese condiments and pantry staples. Early on Tuesday morning a three-alarm fire tore through the building at 6750 NE Broadway, and Portland Fire & Rescue says the blaze resulted in a "total loss of the structure." Many windows were boarded up and thick, opaque smoke made interior firefighting difficult; firefighters reported 20-foot flames along the single-story strip mall roof that stretched the entire length of the building. Around eight nearby homes were briefly evacuated (residents were allowed to return within about 15 minutes), there were no reported injuries, and the fire was contained by around 4 a.m.; the cause remains under investigation. It's unclear when, or if, the market will reopen." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
