"I discovered a new Japanese food truck opened by Joel Taylor, a chef who worked in Austin sushi restaurants after moving here in 2011, became head sushi chef at Kome, and later served as the tamaki chef when Kome expanded with Uroko in 2019. Parked at Ira’s and Bev’s Food Truck Park as of mid-September, Little Nishi offers a wide variety of temaki (hand rolls) including an avocado with peached miso and crispy shallots; a Saba with cured mackerel, shiso, cucumbers, ginger, roasted cherry tomatoes, and garlic; a barbecue eel with smoked brie, a citrus soy glaze, and Thai chiles; and a blue fin toro belly with kazami wasabi, shiso, and nikiri. There are also sashimi pieces such as tamago, hamachi toro, and salmon, plus other dishes like creamed corn with Japanese mayonnaise, panko-fried slow-roasted pork belly with yuzu cream and pickled onions, taiyaki, and mochi ice cream. Hours listed are 4–9 p.m. Monday–Wednesday; 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and 4–9 p.m. Thursday; 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and 4–10 p.m. Friday; noon–3 p.m. and 5–10 p.m. Saturday; and 1–9 p.m. Sunday, and takeout orders can be placed online with Uber Eats deliveries available." - Nadia Chaudhury
