"Founded by Nick Dedier and Alexa Hazelton, Almighty Food Co. is a health-forward restaurant that aims to deliver big flavor while avoiding refined sugar and flour and leaning heavily on vegetarian and gluten-free options—the menu is reportedly 70 percent vegetarian, 90 percent gluten-free, and 20 percent vegan. The concept grew out of Dedier's personal shift to almost all-vegetarian eating after a health scare and his discovery that South American flavors and very fresh vegetables could replace the old fallbacks; he and Hazelton emphasize sustainably sourced meats and produce and a community focus. Dishes described for the late-July debut include a chilled broccolini “Caesar” salad; an everything bagel with housemade spread, red onion, crispy capers, hard egg and dressed baby kale; a seasonal salad with baby kale, avocado, beets, Granny Smith apple, pepitas, blueberries and onion with an apple cider vinaigrette; roasted shrimp in garlic and red-chili ghee; a Kingston jerk chicken and shrimp (Dedier’s personal favorite) with pineapple relish and black beans over turmeric quinoa; and a wagyu meat-and-potatoes plate using Sonny’s Farm beef with sweet potato, broccolini, a soft egg, crispy chickpeas and balsamic chimichurri. Hazelton’s beverage program mixes local wines and beers with nonalcoholic offerings such as housemade sodas using Liquid Death sparkling water (ginger-and-local-honey, blueberry-and-cream), shakes and juices, and the menu sources local producers like Resting Bee Face for honey and Flourless Bakery for gluten-free bread as part of a stated mission to feed the community well." - Dianne de Guzman
