"Over the weekend, a hoodie-wearing, as-yet-unidentified thief smashed a door to break into the River Oaks restaurant and stole cash, multiple bottles of liquor, a toolbox and an iPad, then ransacked the office and liquor cabinets, leaving a giant mess for staff to clean up, according to a statement from the restaurant. Although the damage was not major and the business will remain open for carryout and curbside service, the incident underscores a wider problem: restaurant robberies have been a major issue for Houston over the past year — a trend that prompted bar owner Bobby Heugel last November to criticize Mayor Sylvester Turner over what he estimated were more than a hundred restaurant robberies in 2019 — and comes as the restaurant already faces financial strain from Judge Lina Hidalgo’s county-wide order requiring dine-in closures to help stem the coronavirus pandemic." - Amy McCarthy
