"A family-run farm in Turner, Maine, that doubles as a café, bakery, fromagerie and charcuterie and is recognized as the state’s first organic dairy farm, it recently received a James Beard America’s Classics Award for its role as a community cornerstone. Operated by Gloria and Gregg Varney and in the Varney family for more than a century, the operation was expanded after the Varneys took over in 1987 to include a community café and coffee shop, followed by a bakery, cheese shop and charcuterie. The café features homemade cheeses and meats, bagels, freshly baked pies and breads, and dishes topped with farm eggs and homemade sausage and cheeses; the operation emphasizes homemade everything (even teas and crackers) and provides a warm, farm-based gathering space focused on building and sustaining community." - Erika Adams
