"The second location of northwest Atlanta barbecue joint Das BBQ is now open on Memorial Drive in Grant Park. Taking over the space previously occupied by self-service taproom the Harp, owner and pitmaster Stephen Franklin expanded the restaurant’s outdoor spaces along the side and front of the old Harp Transmission building, which now includes 110 seats between two covered patios and benches surrounding a fire pit. This location also features 80 seats inside, a full bar, and a newly built smokehouse where Franklin plans to hold classes and interactive barbecue experiences. Franklin’s uncle custom built three commercial barrel smokers from repurposed and recycled commercial propane tanks for the Grant Park restaurant. Serving Georgia- and Texas-style barbecue, the menu offers seven barrel-smoked meats like brisket and pulled pork by the pound and sausages by the link, along with sandwiches and plates paired with traditional barbecue sides. Das BBQ first opened nearly five years ago inside a former Pizza Hut along Collier Road in northwest Atlanta. Franklin says an east side location has always been in the cards. He was drawn to Grant Park because of its preserved green spaces and this particular property’s proximity to major Atlanta landmarks like Oakland Cemetery, the Carter Center, and the state Capitol building." - Beth McKibben
