"Open for: Breakfast, Lunch Price range: $ A Madrid institution, Java Junction is the hub of this artsy desert community (and bona fide ghost town) nestled 20 minutes outside Santa Fe on the Turquoise Trail. The coffee beans, brewed in house, are roasted only 18 miles north of the shop. It’s also one of the only places open early that you can dependably pop into for an iced coffee to cool off. Be sure to sample the homemade pies, like rhubarb and blueberry, which rotate daily. The coffee shop also has an adjoining store as well as a bed-and-breakfast for those who want to stay the night.  If you drive: Park up the road in a paid lot or on the street. Though there’s no sidewalks, everyone knows to slow down in Madrid." - Karen Fischer
