"At 9850 Cabrillo Highway North, I discovered a sunny new breakfast-and-lunch spot that opened with a soft launch on January 29 by veteran Bay Area restaurateurs Sachin Chopra and Shoshana Wolff. Housed in a 1940s building with large front windows overlooking rolling farmland and rear windows facing the tarmac, the cafe offers a casual, family-friendly menu anchored by a golden Dutch baby pancake covered with fresh fruit (Wolff calls it “our signature dish”), plus buttermilk pancakes, a Belgian waffle, a selection of pastries, avocado and ricotta toast, and a cheekily named $100 Burger that actually costs $15 with an Impossible option for vegetarians. Bleary-eyed travelers can rely on a full espresso bar, and there’s beer and wine for those not driving; the cafe is open 8 a.m.–2 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. A spacious, dog-friendly back patio with picnic tables makes for easy runway viewing, and the owners hope Pilot Light will serve both pilots who base at the airport and coastal travelers as a destination and a more casual counterpart to their fine-dining operation." - Lauren Saria
