"Having started as an unassuming street food cart on the sidewalks of New York City in 1990, The Halal Guys developed a huge word-of-mouth following that went international after partnering with Fransmart to franchise the brand in 2014. Its first Southern California outpost opened in Costa Mesa in 2015, and it has since expanded throughout Orange County and Los Angeles; there are now 100 branches worldwide with over 400 more in the works. Local franchisee Farhan Qadri has signed a five-unit deal to bring a handful of locations to San Diego, though individual leases and exact addresses have yet to be signed. The fast-casual concept is famous for platters of salad and rice topped with chicken, beef gyro, or falafel served with a garlicky white sauce and hot sauce, as well as pita sandwiches." - Candice Woo
