"Laozi — pronounced “lousy” — is Salvatore “Sam” Caruso’s labor of love, a homegrown shop serving French-style custard out of the back of Blue Dot Donuts in Mid-City. Another business born out of the pandemic, Caruso has a cult following in the city for flavors like oatmeal ice cream pie, toasted coconut, and vanilla bean chocolate chip — flavors Caruso calls comfort food flavors.
