New Orleans Dive Bar Parasol’s Returns With New Owners - Eater New Orleans

"Just in time for football season, beloved Irish Channel dive bar Parasol’s is back with a reissued liquor license and new ownership, though no po-boys just yet. The development follows this spring’s news that the po-boy destination and St. Patrick’s Day epicenter would have to go dry this summer after losing its ability to sell booze. Earlier this year the city sued owner Thea Hogan over unpaid taxes, preventing her from renewing Parasol’s liquor license in the spring. After going dry, the 2533 Constance Street business license changed hands over the summer from Hogan’s Parasol’s Bar and Restaurant LLC to Irish Channel LLC, registered to Kimberlee Banning. Parasol’s has a cherished history as a neighborhood bar at the corner of Third and Constance streets where it opened in 1952. Hogan had been running Parasol’s on her own since her husband John Hogan died in 2012, and has struggled in recent years, saying that 'with po-boys and being a corner bar, you can only charge so much and keep your customers.' Eater has reached out to Parasol’s and will update this post if we hear back. According to its Facebook page, the kitchen will reopen soon." - Clair Lorell
