Surrey’s Café is a vibrant brunch spot serving up mouthwatering American and Latin dishes like migas and indulgent shrimp and grits, plus freshly squeezed juices that are simply irresistible.
"A favorite for breakfast and brunch, this funky little gem was serving specialty juices before it became popular. Surrey’s Cafe makes a mean migas and Costa Rican breakfast, though lots of New Orleans flavor can be found on the menu. Open Thursday through Monday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; expect a small line on weekends." - Clair Lorell, Beth D'Addono, Eater Staff
"This popular Magazine Street cafe dishes fun and funky breakfast items including bananas foster French toast, migas with eggs and chorizo and a super shrimp and grits. Served in a bowl, Surrey’s S&G is garnished with green onions AND bacon, a ring of toasted French bread driving the carb-fueled delight home. You won’t want to waste a drop of this sauce, promise." - Beth D'Addono
"Every time we pass Surrey’s in the Lower Garden District, there’s a line. Even on weekdays. We’re here to tell you it’s worth the wait. You’ll smell the sauteeing New Orleans seasoning trinity of bell peppers, onions, and celery right when you walk in (and probably even waiting in line). Stay focused and get some french toast or the crab meat omelet, which is easily one of the best crab dishes in the city. It’s filled with avocado and brie, and topped with creamy lump crab meat sauce that sparks joy every time we spot it on our fork. Get a biscuit instead of toast with that, because it’s ideal for sopping up that sauce—it's moist but still dense enough to stand up to aggressive plate swabbing. Despite the lines, the food comes out quickly, you won’t feel rushed, and every other table is lingering and having fun." - megan braden perry
"Surrey’s serves both breakfast and lunch, but it’s the breakfast that attracts customers that spill out on the sidewalk while waiting for a table. Biscuits baked in-house every day, a fairly extensive fresh juice menu, and Latin American-inspired dishes like migas and huevos rancheros are unique touches that complement an all around solid breakfast menu. Pro tip: Surrey’s grit game is strong, both as a side and as part of its popular shrimp and grits dish." - Clair Lorell, Beth D'Addono, Justine Jones
