Inclusivity Is Still a Major Problem in Dallas’s Gayborhood | Eater Dallas

"One of only 15 lesbian bars remaining in the United States, Sue Ellen’s has been an Oak Lawn institution since January 1989 and began welcoming customers back inside in June 2021 after a 15-month hiatus. Under general manager Kathy Jack, the bar was opened with the explicit goal of creating a women-centered space and has grown into a regional destination that draws visitors from Oklahoma, California, and Canada; Jack says the mostly-woman bar staff and conspicuous location at the Throckmorton and Cedar Springs crossroads help many women, trans women, and nonbinary patrons feel more comfortable. I note that Sue Ellen’s now programs a variety of events intended to serve the whole LGBTQ community, including an inclusive drag competition called the Queer Off and a music festival later in the year with a lineup of mostly women performers." - Alex Gonzalez
