"Opening this week in Greenpoint, I visited the regional chain’s new 5,000-square-foot waterfront axe-throwing bar at 25 Noble St.; unlike the chain’s other U.S. locations, this outpost will feature a wine and beer bar plus a full kitchen that will make finger foods like pretzels and donuts once the liquor license is finalized in about two weeks. The main draw is competitive axe throwing: teams are assigned to one of eight throwing lanes (set up like a bowling alley) and each team can have two hatchets out at a time, with an on-site “axe master” overseeing safety. No prior knowledge is required — everyone goes through a 15-minute safety and training session — and the space fits up to 80 people; walk-ins are accepted but reservations via the bar’s website are recommended. Owner Howard Klotzkin describes it as “darts on steroids,” and he emphasizes that the chain’s eight other locations have had no incidents. Beer and wine will cost $4, players must be 14 or older, and a two-hour axe-throwing session is $39.99 per person; the bar opens daily at noon and will be open until 10 p.m. on weekdays and until 1 a.m. on weekends." - Carla Vianna
