"A nostalgic seasonal bucket that first debuted in 1986 and was offered intermittently through 2016 has returned on October 18. This year’s Boo Buckets — given away with a Happy Meal (your hamburger or chicken nuggets arrive tucked inside) — come in three designs: a ghost called McBoo, an orange McPumpkin, and a McGoblin (previously known in the ’90s as the McWitch, renamed amid some parents’ concerns about “witchcraft”). Longtime fans lament that the modern versions have lacked the old screw-on lids since 2001 — which once let small hands drop candy through a hole — and note the decorative handles (a witch’s hat on the McGoblin, a pumpkin on the McBoo) look a bit chintier than vintage lids. Still, many adults embrace buying them for the rush of childhood nostalgia, using them as trick-or-treat pails or grown-up candy catch-alls while rewatching favorite Halloween movies." - Amy McCarthy
