"Reopening tonight at 1411 Third Avenue near 80th Street, I find Eli’s Table has returned as a seasonal Upper East Side restaurant after a three-year pandemic closure, housed adjacent to Eli’s Market. Longtime chef Moctezuma “Monti” Garcia, who has worked with Zabar for over two decades, is offering dishes that highlight greens grown on nearby rooftops and seasonal specialties such as white asparagus with egg and a vinaigrette, veal sweetbreads, and tagliatelle with peekytoe crab. Wine director Kilian Robin oversees purchases across Eli’s restaurants and markets from a cellar of more than 50,000 bottles—one of the city’s largest collections of Old World wine. The reopened space has been updated with some layout changes and a new manager, and over the coming months I expect classes, winemaker dinners, and curated meals drawn from the wine list, while the Zabars maintain the goal of a neighborhood place “where everyone knows you and what you like.”" - Melissa McCart
