"East Coast transplants will often lament the Portland food scene’s seeming indifference for the bodega-style bacon, egg, and cheese. Tightly wrapped and steaming hot, these are perfect sandwiches for construction sites and 90-minute commutes. But Picone’s, located on the stretch of Lombard between Kenton and St. Johns, is doing admirable work in the genre. The cart features a small roster of deli staples, including a slate of breakfast sandwiches that often sell out early on the weekends. It’s a good value for the money, too, built on a generous slab of toasted baguette with a couple of folded fried eggs slathered with ketchup and American cheese. There’s no runny egg to threaten car upholstery, but the yolk has a satisfying jammy quality that indicates skill on the flat top.
