"At Mama T’s, a small spot owned by Teena Johnson in downtown Oakland, I spent $35.65 on four items, including the restaurant’s signature offering. I held up a fried fish sandwich with ketchup, tomato, lettuce, and mayo on a buttered bun; while it’s what they’re known for, the crust was extremely thick and a strong grease flavor knocked it to a 7.5/10. A side of seasoned fries fared better than the fries from San Francisco’s Double Decker—though I suspected they were freezer fries, the ample seasoning pushed them to a 5/10. The grilled chicken sandwich did even better, earning an 8.5/10 for lots of juicy chicken and a nice, sweet, tangy barbecue sauce. The real standout was the homemade, pickle-forward potato salad, which I called the best thing I’ve had since I’ve been here and scored an 8.7/10." - Paolo Bicchieri
