"Named in a lawsuit alleging USC and USC Village used deceptive leasing practices, Rance’s Chicago Pizza closed its USC Village location on September 2. Co-owner Aaron Tofani says the restaurant was “set up in a situation where USC is acting as the banker with all these mealing plans, and they’re acting as the landlord, and they’re also the competition with the dining hall,” and that the university repeatedly denied his requests to accept USCards as payment. Tofani confirms the USC location fell several months behind on rent, says it was never profitable, and is pursuing a $5 million judgment to help cover losses; Rance’s still operates two other locations in Long Beach and Costa Mesa." - Farley Elliott
