"Opening Wednesday, October 1, Charleston’s newest Italian spot from Free Reign Restaurants reimagines 114 Spring Street as a multi-level hangout with a rooftop, a dining room, a separate bar, and a streetside window for gelato, espresso, spritzes, and boozy popsicles. Inspired by the southern Italian coast, the menu leans into pasta with 12 choices—from clam linguine and cavatelli con polpo (octopus) to mafaldine with pork ragu—plus build-your-own cheese-and-meat boards, a variety of tinned fish, and traditional crudi and antipasti. The interiors are whimsical and Old World, with Positano greens and pinks, fabricated stucco walls, light wood, feminine fabrics, and a lemon tree in the dining room; on the roof, Campari-branded umbrellas provide shade and a projection screen will show old black-and-white Italian films. A $600 “Girls Weekend” package nods to the Cannonborough/Elliotborough bachelorette scene with a magnum of rosé, dinner for six to eight, and commemorative T-shirts. Once open, it will serve lunch and dinner daily, offering one of the few chances for daytime Italian in town." - Erin Perkins
