One of the Most Famous Italian Pizzerias from Naples Is Opening a Location in Hollywood - Eater LA

"Longtime Angelenos might remember Café des Artistes, the slightly hidden and beloved restaurant on McCadden just north of Sunset in Hollywood. It’s about to change into the first U.S. location for the famed Neapolitan pizzeria L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, which should open some time this spring. If that name sounds familiar, its because author Elizabeth Gilbert wrote about it in her blockbuster novel “Eat Pray Love,” and was also featured in the film starring Julia Roberts. It’s a big arrival to the center of Hollywood, with a large 3,000 square foot interior, and a gorgeous patio. Just like L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele’s original Naples restaurant, it’ll serve two types of wood-fired pizzas: marinara and margherita. There’ll be plenty more than just pizza, as restaurant will be an all-day affair. Mornings start with Italian breakfast and coffee, and more dishes by Naples-born chef and LA newcomer, Michele Rubini. Rubini will use many of the same recipes and ingredients as the original Naples location. The showstopper is the rear courtyard, which was designed by the first-time restaurant owner, Francesco Zimone. It’s surrounded by high trees, tiles, whitewashed stone, brick walls, with a smaller front patio. It’ll be a quite the transformation from its former days as Café des Artistes, which opened in 1990 and closed in 2011. L’Antica da Michele operates in four countries, but the original opened in 1870. As for the operating hours, Zimone wants to keep a late schedule for the Hollywood location. This is unusual for the neighborhood, as many of the area’s sit-down restaurants tend to run on the touristy side." - Mona Holmes
