Miznon, an Israeli Pita Chain, Eyes New Upper West Side Location - Eater NY

"Israeli fast-casual chain Miznon may soon be bringing its beloved pita sandwiches to the Upper West Side. The Middle Eastern restaurant is requesting a liquor license for a new spot at 320 Columbus Ave., according to the neighborhood’s Community Board, as first spotted by West Side Rag. The space between West 76th and 77th Streets was once home to Indian restaurant Saffron. Considered one of the best pita shops in Tel Aviv, Miznon opened its first U.S. outpost in Chelsea Market earlier this year. The restaurant from Israeli celebrity chef Eyal Shani gained quick popularity, drawing instant lines shortly after its New York debut. Shani’s team behind the Chelsea Market location has been eyeing additional New York sites from the onset, according to Israeli news site Haaretz. Plans for an Upper West Side location — and possibly additional spots — have been in the works since 2017. Here in New York, chef Shani focuses on giving his pita creations a sense of place: After hearing that the local sandwich was the hamburger, he added a “folded cheeseburger” to the menu. Eater has reached out to Miznon for more information. Stay tuned." - Carla Vianna
