"I'm alarmed to learn that, despite being one of San Francisco’s most popular Sunday food destinations, the Outer Sunset Farmers’ Market & Mercantile may be forced to move after a dispute with St. Ignatius College Preparatory. The school asked that the market, held every Sunday and seasonally on Wednesday nights on 37th Avenue between Ortega and Quintara streets, be shut down completely for three upcoming Sundays and that the market contract be reduced from two blocks to one for an additional seven Sundays. Organizer Angie Petitt says those changes would have a “catastrophic impact” on the market’s sustainability—this small organization runs on a tight budget and the market serves as a crucial venue for dozens of farmers, small businesses, and organizations—so foregoing or halving income from those 10 market days could render it financially unsustainable; she has written to Supervisor Gordon Mar hoping for a compromise but, as of Tuesday, there were no plans for the parties to meet, and she may have to consider moving the market or shutting it down completely." - Lauren Saria
