"I note that Southern California loves Bob’s Big Boy: the national chain started in Burbank in 1949 and is best known for the larger-than-life statue of its mascot stationed at every restaurant’s front entrance. In late August, a violent crash nearly decapitated the 58-year-old statue at the Bob’s Big Boy on Firestone Boulevard in Downey when a driver allegedly clipped a fire hydrant and sent it barreling toward the statue as water sprayed into the air; the Downey Police Department described it as a single-car accident." - Mona Holmes
