"After abruptly shutting down last April, the Riverside distillery on Tchoupitoulas Street has reopened under new Las Vegas–based ownership and a slightly tweaked name, now operating as NOLA Distillery. HS Beverage, a seven-year-old company that owns Hierarchy Vodka and two Hustler-label products, bought the distillery a few months after its closure, resumed tours and production last month, and will produce both Hierarchy and Hustler items while distributing NOLA Distillery products in those retail markets. Opened by Kirk Coco of NOLA Brewing Co. in 2015, the well-attended tasting room and distillery earned awards for its vodkas and gained recognition for using locally sourced ingredients—sweet potatoes from Avoyelles Parish for its signature Louisiana sweet potato vodka, Louisiana molasses for rum, cold brew from French Truck Coffee for a liqueur, and cayenne peppers grown in NOCCA’s Press Street Gardens—and it’s working with the Jazzmen Rice group to develop a Louisiana jasmine rice vodka. The distillery is open for tours and tastings daily from noon to 8 p.m., with a grand opening party planned for the end of March." - Clair Lorell
