"Opening this Friday, July 13, a Firehouse Subs at 4150 General DeGaulle Drive in New Orleans-proper will start serving hot subs, cold subs, and salads; I noted it’s operated by franchisees David Clark and Jessica Christen and will be open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Inside, Florida-based mural artist Joe Puskas painted a black-and-white mural featuring the Algiers Courthouse surrounded by cypress trees — Puskas and his team have painted over 1,000 murals for the chain. This isn’t the brand’s first Louisiana presence (there are locations in Slidell, Thibodeaux, Metairie, and Monroe), but it is Firehouse Subs’ first New Orleans-proper location. The chain was founded more than 20 years ago by brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, both firefighters, and now has over 1,135 restaurants in 44 states, Puerto Rico, and Canada, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. Clark and Christen don’t have any other New Orleans-area stores planned right now." - Stephanie Carter
