"Serving D.C. for the first time, the Pennsylvania fried chicken purveyor FreeByrd Chicken set up a two-week pop-up at the recently shuttered Prospect sports bar (1214 U Street NW) beginning Thursday, July 19. It’s serving its signature buttermilk-brined fried chicken with homemade pickles and barbecue sauce made on-site, plus sides like slaw, $4 curly fries, and $9 chicken bowls; hours are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday–Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The brand plucks its product from Pennsylvania farms, was most recently at Crystal City’s pop-up venue The Stand for a month, and is prepping to debut its first brick-and-mortar later this summer inside Philadelphia’s enormous new food hall Bourse Marketplace; the popular “Philly Cheese-Chick” features slow-roasted pulled chicken, jalapeño beer cheese, and beer-mustard–braised onions on a hoagie roll." - Tierney Plumb
