"Now expanding to the Gaslamp, Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ — a chain with more than 700 locations worldwide and over 50 in the United States that first arrived in San Diego in 2014 with a Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch restaurant — is replacing Analog Bar on Fifth Avenue. The space is being extensively remodeled to install the duct system necessary for its in-table smokeless grills, where diners cook their own meat, seafood, and vegetables, and the downtown location was expected to be completed in the first half of 2020. Its food and drink offerings are set to mirror other Southern California locations, with a huge selection of ready-to-cook plates ranging from 21-day aged Angus skirt steak to beef tongue, pork belly, garlic-soy chicken, and miso butter salmon, plus multi-course set menus for large groups, an all-you-can-eat option, and service of sake, shochu, and beer; a lunch and dinner menu update was planned for that fall." - Candice Woo
