"I visited the new Maven Coffee and Cocktails at Thompson Houston shortly after it opened on Wednesday morning; launched by Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. with partners Juan Carlos Martinez de Aldecoa and Jimmy Doan as an expansion of their mobile cart business following the success of the Rex Hospitality Group’s carts at Minute Maid Stadium and the Toyota Center. Located on the first floor of the hotel and accessible through an exterior entrance under the shade of the valet’s porte-cochere, the space—designed by Construction Concepts—uses soft lighting and earth tones accentuated with shades of bronze and dark blue, and is shaped by paintings from Oaxacan artist Didier Mayés. Curated by Nicolás Baizán de Aldecoa, the menu offers coffee, tea, sandwiches, pastries and sweets alongside hand-crafted cocktails and a curated wine selection; signature drinks include the Xoco Fizz (with Toki Japanese whiskey and banana) and the Conversation Starter (zephyr, passionfruit, chai, mint and honey), while coffee-based cocktails such as an espresso martini and a Mexican carajillo also appear. Food highlights include a waffle-pressed truffle grilled cheese croissant sandwich, a jamón and cheese sandwich, and lemon tea cakes, and the shop features local purveyors like Magnol French Baking (breads), Love Croissants (croissants) and JuiceWell (freshly squeezed juices). The venue is described as a “coffee-by-day, cocktails-by-night” atmosphere and is open 6:30 a.m.–10 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 6:30 a.m.–11 p.m. Friday–Saturday, and 7 a.m.–10 p.m. on Sunday." - Kayla Stewart
