"A fast-casual spinoff of Anita’s Kitchen, AK Takeaway is making big strides toward opening day inside the 150 W. Jefferson building near Larned and Griswold streets in downtown Detroit. I’m told the new counter-service spot will focus on carryout for breakfast and lunch and will feature many of Anita’s most popular carryout items—chicken shawarma, fattoush, and a gluten-free tabbouleh made with quinoa rather than cracked wheat—and that many of the Lebanese recipes are naturally vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. Co-owned by Jennifer and Joe Wegrzyn and designed by D Met Studio, the space will seat roughly 20 diners inside with room for about 20 more on the patio; Jennifer says the fast-casual timing recalls the brand’s quick-service roots and is on track to open in June." - Brenna Houck
