"A real-life restaurant in Manhattan, Kansas where Joel and Sam regularly meet their friend Fred (Murray Hill) for breakfast and order "French toast for the table." It’s the setting for one of the series’ most iconic Thanksgiving scenes, when the gang prods Joel’s charmingly uptight boyfriend Brad (Tim Bagley) into telling his coming-out story amid abundant plates and full glasses of wine. The location also highlights the show’s recurring conflict around deprivation and pleasure: Fred’s new wife Susan (Jennifer Mudge) constantly badgers him to "eat healthy," tells Sam she shouldn’t "bring Fred down" with her, and thereby helps explain why Fred is shown regularly sneaking out to score cheeseburgers at the restaurant; Susan’s scolding over doughnuts at a Catch Club game effectively cements her role as the show’s only real villain." - Amy McCarthy
