"I noticed a new Cajun-Creole restaurant from the owners of Oceana Grill opened on Bourbon Street last month; Mambo’s, at 411 Bourbon Street, occupies the former Centerfolds strip club and even adds the French Quarter’s first rooftop bar not belonging to a hotel. Seemingly and wisely oriented toward tourists like Oceana, it serves straightforward Cajun fare such as gator tail bites, po-boys, and plenty of blackened proteins. The rooftop is the marquee feature, with a “laidback Louisiana front-porch feel,” seating for 50 and panoramic views of the French Quarter, while inside the Voodoo Room showcases artwork by local artists. The addition of a third story after Centerfolds closed was controversial—historic preservationists warned in 2017 that the City Council vote set a “dangerous precedent” by not including input from the Vieux Carré Commission—and the restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the rooftop bar open 4 p.m. to 2 a.m." - Clair Lorell
