"Currently under construction on Memorial Drive, this large restaurant-and-retail development at the corner of Bill Kennedy Way and Memorial Drive in Reynoldstown (across from Golden Eagle) will include an AMC theatre, Publix, Taqueria Tsunami, Marlow’s Tavern, a second Steel City Pops, and a previously announced restaurant from the owners of Char Korean in Inman Park. I report that the complex, developed by Fuqua, is being positioned along the Eastside Beltline corridor (the trail will pass by Madison Yards) and has drawn local concern that the project—and anchors like the planned Hoots wing shop—represent a suburbanizing influence rather than a focus on locally owned or more diverse restaurants and retail (residents said Fuqua didn’t go far enough or court local wings brands like J.R. Crickets). Neighbors have also worried about rising housing costs tied to Madison Yards and nearby Memorial Drive redevelopments; Fuqua, meanwhile, touts a diverse leadership team and a commitment to enhancing neighborhoods, and points to other local projects such as Northside and 17th near Atlantic Station, Decatur Crossing, and The Battery Atlanta." - Beth McKibben
