"I found Shield’s Pizza has returned to Detroit proper after being founded in 1937: the Midtown outpost opened on April 8 at the former Maccabee’s Traders address, 5057 Woodward Ave., kitty-corner to the Detroit Institute of Arts. The restaurant features a dine-in space with a layout similar to its predecessor and a full bar, plus a carryout counter offering square slices and salads to-go; from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays customers at the counter can get a slice and a drink for $5. The menu includes cheesy bread, antipasto salad, burgers, soups, and sandwiches in addition to the classic pan-baked Detroit-style square pizzas, and there’s also a tossed round pizza option for those who want to skip the pan pizza." - Brenna Houck
