"Shield’s Pizza is now slinging Detroit-style square pizza at a new outpost in Midtown, Daily Detroit reports. The opening marks the return of Shield’s to Detroit proper, where it was founded in 1937. Shield’s is located at the former Maccabee’s Traders address at 5057 Woodward Ave. kitty corner to the Detroit Institute of Arts. The restaurant, which staff at Shield’s tell Eater opened on April 8, features a dine-in restaurant space with a similar layout to its predecessor and a full bar. There’s also a carryout counter with square slices and salads to-go. From from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays customers at the counter can get a slice and a drink for $5. Shield’s menu features options like cheesy bread, antipasto salad, burgers, soups, and sandwiches, in addition to the square pizzas. A tossed round pizza option is also available for those who want to skip the classic pan-baked pizza." - Brenna Houck
