"Max’s Restaurant, a Filipino dining institution that’s often described as “the house that fried chicken built,” will open its first Houston location near NRG Stadium. Signage for the beloved eatery is up at 8011 South Main Street, Suite 300, a stone’s throw away from equally-popular fried chicken chain Jollibee. According to Eater’s Francesca Manto, the chain first opened its doors in 1946 in Quezon City, and has since become a staple for Filipino families thanks to its traditional dishes. Since opening, Max’s Restaurant has expanded to more than 200 locations across the Philippines, along with more than a dozen outposts in the United States and restaurants in Canada and the Middle East. As far as the food is concerned, expect a menu of Filipino classics like fried fish filet in sweet and sour or black bean sauce, and of course, the famed fried chicken. It’s decidedly different than what’s on offer at Jollibee — entire birds are deep-fried with a shatteringly crisp crust. Rice dishes, soups, and salads round out the menu, along with breakfast dishes that are served all day long." - Alaena Hostetter
